THE ONLY PLANET FOR SEVEN BILLION

The Ocean wherein born and brought up

            Carried over land packed in,

For the journey long adaptive changes  with,

            To feed on green terrestrials.

Monitored by sun, green, aerated water fresh,

            To thrive with myriad entities,

Together with offsprings of the bountiful Mother Earth,

            Butchered by the youngest dreaded,

Breaking down habitat fragile to live in,

           Self claimed Monarch of all.

For the fresh swallowed with he contaminated,

          For the fresh inhaled polluted,

For heavenly home together with brethren destroyed,

         Buried all underneath rock sterile.

Obeisance to the Absolute Energy the Omnipotent,

To help rejuvenate the Devine Habitat.

Emitted from the Absolute Energy with a Big Bang, the Universe of a swarm of Galaxies came into being. The Universe is dynamic but in harmonious infinite diversity. It is "the Perfect"; Subtraction, addition or any sort of changes in it shall not affect the whole. The cymbal shaped Milky Way, our galaxy of approximately 200 billion stars is rotating round its axis at about the speed of  200 million miles per second. The Sun, our star in the Milky way and planets around it form a system. One of its planets, Our Mother Earth is bestowed with conditions to form and support Life hence called The Living Planet.

Preceded with fire ball, solidified celestial fragments, collision and coalition of them, the Mother Earth took birth billions of year ago. Passing through a long course of evolution she became what she is today. Life on her appeared, approximately 4.5 billion years ago, in the then shallow and warm life soup with tremendous photo-association and photo-dissociation chemical reactions at the impact of powerful solar energy on earthly materials. Unprotected with Ozone Jacket in the outer atmospheric layer and protected from radiant magnetic field emitted from electro magnetic storms of solar flare with the Earth's own magnetic field, Life on the Mother Earth came into existence entirely by chance. So Life is a complex combination of chemical compounds but with three manifestations :

                          1. Energy Re-Conversion: Capability of trapping and converting solar energy into Biological                                                                                   Energy.
                          2. Adaptation:  Capability of adjustment to the ever changing surrounding provided the very                                                               change is not instantaneous and is within adaptive range of biological entities.

                          3. Reproduction: Capability of transferring the adapted characters to the offsprings through the                                                           process of reproduction-- "the species begets the species".

Starting with the simplest of the simple forms, life came on the land in the form of a sac of ocean water ( Example, plus 60 percent of the body of mankind is saline water ) . Adapted to ever changing Mother Earth, Life has been evolving to the climaxes of two kingdoms-- the Angiosperms, especially the flowering and fruit giving ones, of the plant kingdom and the Mammals of the animal kingdom under which the mankind is. The animal cannot trap the solar energy and therefore is solely dependent on the plant for energy in the  form of food, manufactured by Autophytic ones (capable of manufacturing ones own food) through photosynthesis and in the process oxygen is produced as a byproduct, and it is used for respiration to pump the flow of energy in the medium of body fluid. Hence, the energy that runs the biological world on the earth is alien and, not at all, belonging to the Mother Earth.

Plants and other animals are taking care of mankind and in turn mankind is destroying them. Were the Mother Earth to start her birth and evolution from the very beginning she will never be what she is today because the chances never repeat alike in the dynamic Universe. The present Environment of the Mother Earth has never been like this in her long history of evolution and it will not be the same in years to come. Now, She and her kids are protected well from the dreaded UV Rays of the Sun with Ozone Jacket, formed high in the outer atmospheric layer, out of free oxygen liberated by Phytochromic organisms (plants having pigments capable of trapping solar energy) living inside the water and on the land as well. These are the plants which produce food for in the Seven Billion directly or indirectly.

MOTHER EARTH IS ONLY ONE NOT TWO IN THE UNIVERSE OF INFINITE  DIVERSITY

Dynamism and harmonious infinite diversity are the nature of the Universe.

For the misdeed of Man, our kind, polluting the three states of water, contaminating the atmosphere of the biosphere, slaughtering his kins beyond regenerating capability, destroying his photosynthetic protectors and what not in his surrounding that he belongs to, he, along with other life forms, will get buried themselves underneath the sterile skin of the Mother Earth.

May the Scientists be ignited, with the bliss of the Absolute Energy, to discover the fabrics of nature and the mind of the masses be exited to help save the Mother Earth.

Nothing belongs to Seven Billion,
O the Mankind Child of the Mother Earth.
Everything belongs to Her,
The Habitat of myriad Biological Entities.
Consume Only The Need,
Synthesized by the Green Cover of Her,
Not cutting into Her Regenerative Capability.
Homage to the Absolute Solidarity.

The people living in mongoloid belt from China to Philippine and Mali are agrarian living entirely on seasonal rain dependent agriculture. Their staple food is paddy of hundred wet and dry varieties cultivable in varied climatic conditions. They had cultures of sustenance moulded in the cradle of forest of rich biodiversity through a long span of time beyond one's imagination. Forest was their home, forest was everything to them and what not. Today, in the name of development they are in the verge of abandoning the treasure handed over to them by their bygone forefathers. The sustainable way of livelihood capable to feed the billion with the produce of the green is being lost leading to the loss of themselves.

To highlight the trend of deterioration, Manipur a small state in the North East India is taken as an example of
this mongoloid belt. The state is in the mountainous corridor of the east and the west flanked by the yore inaccessible Himalayas on the north and water of Bay of Bengal on the south. It possesses a rich floral and faunal components shared by China, Mianmar, mainland of India, Himalayas and Malayan Peninsula. It situates just on the north of the Tropic of Cancer in between the Eastern Himalayas and the Great triangle in a spot of very high congestion of rain bearing cloud by virtue of both North East and South West Monsoons. It is a region of Patkai Ranges running from the north to the south forming a bowl shaped topography with a Central Valley ( more or less 760 MSL ) of less than 10 percent of the total geographical area of 22327 square Km. The highest is in the north with Mount Tenepu in Senapati District ant the lowest in the south and south east regions of more or less 300 MSL
By virtue of it's typical topography, about 30 degree inclination toward the zodiac, rainfall of the range from approx.1m to 3m annually and moderate temperature ranging from 0 degree Celsius to 23 -25 degree Celsius, Manipur is endowed with microclimatic conditions of the northern hemisphere with the exception of those of Tundra and North Pole nourishing a very rich biodiversity collectively noticed in the northern half of the globe. It is in the catchment of two international great rivers- Iravadi in Mianmar and Bramhaputra in Tibet and India. When 50 percent of the  landmass of the Blue Planet was covered with forest some 10,000 yrs back toward the close of the 5th Glaciation  Manipur was clad with forest of rich diversity spread over nine tenth of the total geographical area, monitored by a big water body of the valley nourishing a rich sub tropical and temperate aquatic flora and fauna. It is a paradise of migratory birds ,covered by two international migratory routes, with Phoomdi ( floating phytomat ) on which a rich biodiversity of denizens thrive including brow antlered deer ( Corvus eldi eldi ). Though degraded, the environmental condition was to some extent sustainable and regenerative up-to 150 yrs back.

Now the forest has reduced to untraceable primary ones. The big water has reduced to a mere wet-land with Keibul Lamjao National Park toward the south, the only floating national park  of the world , recognized as Ramsar Site, and the last refuge of Cervus eldi eldi. The rainfall has dropped drastically reducing  the spring, the brook, the rivulet and the river to depressions of periodical flooding. The Mercury column has risen up-to maximum .38 degree Celsius dropping hardly to 0 degree Celsius. The winter of 6 months has reduced to 3 months only. Presently, Manipur is under one of the Mega Hot Spots of the world-- Indo- Mianmar Mega Hot Spot.

The organic farming of hundred varieties of paddy ( adapted to dry and wet cultivation ), multiple varieties of pulses and vegetables guided with a rich culture of cultivation with surplus yield for consumption and the yore barter system has now completely been replaced with mechanical farming with chemical fertilizer. The keeping of cattle, the drought animal has almost been abandoned. The abundance of resident and riverine fishes through the Manipur river via the Iravadi and the  Barak via the Brahmaputra has led to almost insignificance. Game birds and wild denizens to be hunted have reduced to threatened extinction.

The retell of the past to the latest generation and generation to come will merely be a folk tale. We are no other else not to be cursed by our own children. We are, now, living on what handed over by our forerunners. What do we have to hand over to our children ???.

Is it not too late to go back to the rich culture of cultivation of short cycle jhooming wherever feasible, wet cultivation in terraces and plain assisted with modern scientific know how to feed seven billion. Modern method of cultivation is of recent origin and untested in stress and strain. It will, always, fail to defy the aged culture of cultivation, the accumulation of techniques through hit and trial for a long.........span of time breaking through stress and strain. Why should not we go back to the culture of cutting for fuel, housing and other accessories for the very living in allotted forest leaving the stump to sprout once again? Is it the right way to uproot the rootstock for preparation of charcoal ? We are, now, compelled to raise and conserve the forest, we depend on for everything to live and to bring back the mother Blue Planet to sustainable and regenerative normalcy from the ever increasing Global Warming. Where there is forest there is water and where there is water there is forest and food to feed seven billion provided the intrinsic system of the Earthly Environment is not interfered beyond her regenerative capabilities.

Who We Are

The Science Teachers’ Forum, Manipur has been standing upright on a firm footing for promotion of science education & scientific knowledge, protection of environment, safeguarding the people in general and learning community in particular since the very inception in the year 1976.

Right from the first half of the 1980s each member of the organisation has been sharing, with a pledge,  in awareness campaign for environment with special reference to conservation of inland water and reconstruction of degraded forest.
Since the very inception of National Childrens’ Science Congress in 1993, the STFM, at the capacity of being an executive member, has been helping the school going children throughout the state to undertake investigating works on nature.
This very organisation is open to each and every individual having interest in the movement for the aforesaid causes.

It is hoped, the STFM will remain active as before and so forever.
